Nah, just an inside joke originating in some misstyped stuff in the past that kinda stuck.    I was cornfused too once… You need to drop the r as well– "fongerboad"  I believe is the most accepted. —   /"  ASCII Ribbon Campaign                | Todd H   /                                       | http://www.toddh.net/    X   Promoting good netiquette            | http://triplethreatband.com/   /  http://www.toddh.net/netiquette/     | "4 lines suffice."

Really?  Cool, I didnt know you could get those!  /me plans imminent trip to Radio Shack.  I’ll get some sound clips up ASAP.  I did manage to borrow a friend’s digital camera (thanks paul!) and take some pics of my rig, so as soon as I can get off my lazy arse, I’ll upload ‘em and post links. 8*)  Also, many thanks to all the linux users who replied (and the one guy who emailed me.  can you re-send your message please? it was lost in a mozilla upgrade 8*) to tell me about the great quantity of  audio applications for linux.  I stand corrected, and gladly so! 8*)  Also, slightly OT question, whats up with some of you guys substituting ‘fongerboard’ when referring to the ‘fingerboard’ or ‘fretboard’?  Is this a slightly more obscure HolyWar(tm), like picking the bass vs. fingerstyle? –Lee – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->How?  I’m running debian linux with a sblive value soundcard, i.e. no >fancy scmancy 1/4" jacks like on the Platinum or Audigy. I didn’t see the post to which you’re replying, so I may be joining a conversation late… For recording your bass from a PRE-AMP out of your amp…. And, assuming the SB Live Value  has a line in input (i’m pretty sure it does) that is 3.5mm (aka 1/8")…. 1/4" to 1/8" stereo adapters are readily available actually.  It’s what the folks with the big headphones use to plug into walkmans. Radio Shack has em.   If you wanna keep life simple, just get one of those, and plug yer bass in to it. Now, if you wanna get fancy and do stereo, get a a "insert" Y cable that separates out the left and right.  It’s a 1/4" stereo plug to two 1/4" mono plugs.  A music store with PA stuff would have em as they are used for inserts in PA mixing boards for inserting effects inline to the preamp of a channel through a single connection.  THen you can record two separate channels at once if your software supports that, if you want to do stereo effects, etc. —   /"  ASCII Ribbon Campaign                | Todd H   /                                       | http://www.toddh.net/    X   Promoting good netiquette            | http://triplethreatband.com/   /  http://www.toddh.net/netiquette/     | "4 lines suffice."

Alright! After a week and a half of email tag, illness on the sellers part, and general annoyance on the shipping company’s part, my Roland DB-500 amp has finally ARRIVED!  I bought it because my Crate practice amp just wasn’t cutting it anymore. I don’t CURRENTLY play in a band, (Three Young Studs and Lee, my first band, broke up about a year ago) but if I did, the crate would’ve been kinda…teensy.  8*P  w00t!  It’s everything I was expecting, and more!  If anyone wants pictures, I’ll be more than happy to post ‘em! -Lee This message contains >70% recycled electrons

Dude, check Freshmeat.net, there are tons of good audio apps for linux. And don’t worry about the adapter, they exist. I use a Midiman AudioBuddy pre-amp and plug it straight into my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, works great! Slackware 8.0   Andy

I have a SBLive card with the 1/8 in’s, it works.  You can get a "Hosa" brand adapter at most music stores, or Radio Shack.  Plug into the "line in",  from the amp’s line out.  There are nearly a dozen settings panels within the software, that you have to set correctly, but once there… you can leave `em.  As far as "recording software" for that OS, I haven’t a clue. —  -rob     /      O   ( / )  "  ""  "
