Who Made These 6V6s
Question:
Hi I have a pair of 6V6s with the Marking 6V6 GT/G in an octogon on the glass in greyish paint. They have black bases and the silvering is round the base of the tube (This might be standard 6V6 practice for all I know). The inside of the glass is painted/coated so that I cannot clearly see the internals except at the top. These are a dull metallic finish. Can any one guess what make these are from this information? James
Response:
maybe Sylvania made for the military? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Hi > I have a pair of 6V6s with the Marking 6V6 GT/G in an octogon on the glass > in greyish paint. Response:
Octagon usually means RCA. I think some others also used the octagon around the tube number – maybe tung-sol? Ned, help us out here. If you have a digital camera and some web page space to post a pic, I’m sure someone here will be able to positively ID it for you. Octagon=RCA, Doug
Response:
Humanoids inspired and equipped by extraterrestrials. The octogon shape is the giveaway. EP

Response:
I have a bunch of old tubes like this, both clear glass and smoked glass. Sperry sand blasted the octogon off so they could mark them up more for uncle sam. They have a red painted dot on the bottom of the locator pin. I wonder what our dear Uncle paid for these? These ‘61 boxes are starting to fall apart. Oh well. Maybe I’ll get around to buying new boxes for them. Thanks, I’m sure that knowing they are RCA will make them sound better to me (phsycologically). James

Response:
Hi I’m going to assume RCA because I’d prefer they were RCA and I’m sure they’ll sound just fine anyway! One reason why I didn’t put a picture anywhere is because a lot of people may have been put off by the big orange Groove Tubes logo which was stamped over it! James
