What are the ugly bugs on my Spruce Tree

Question:

Jim,       I don’t have a digital camera, so I will have to use your second suggestion. Thanks, JD

Or Japanese beatles?

Response:

I live in Cincinnati and have a spruce tree near my garage.  There are a whole lot of what appears to be big brown cockroaches hanging upside down on the tree branches, with some of the bugs on the trunk.  There are also penny sized holes in the ground under the tree which I assume are the location where the bugs came from.  Can anyone tell me what the bugs are, whether they do any harm, and what I should do to get rid of them if they are harmful? Thanks, JD

I think you’ve found Arty Boy’s family tree.

post of picture of the bug so we can look at it, it would help.. or take one and put it in a jar and bring to your local county agent and have them look at it and they can tell you what it is and what to do for it…..
