valve cover gasket

Question:

so sometime in the near future i am going to replace the upper/lower intake manifold gaskets (i’m looking forward to Dr. Bob’s write up).  While doing so, i figured i would also replace the valve cover gaskets.  Does anybody have any info on this job-tricks, pitfalls, or any other tips.  Ideally, somebody would be able to direct me to a DIY procedure, but I’ll settle for anyhting you’ve got.  thanks a lot greg

Greg: I’m working on the DIY for in-place retorqueing of those lower manifold bolts.  No gasket R&R.  Hope you’re not disappointed.  My car doesn’t leak or ping under load,  so I thought I’d just write up the simple cheap easy part of this job while I was in there for a plug change.  Since I can’t get anybody to send any real money for the how-to’s and my New Expedition Fund, there won’t be many unnecessary component R&R descriptions. I was also playing with the digital camera, so there are now pictures to go with such other mundane tasks as changing the plugs, changing the ignition wires, and cleaning the throttle body without any chemicals.  See how to change the plastic "Y" connector at the vapor recovery can on a Porsche 928.  Watch for them at a theater near you… The valve cover gasket R&R is documented at Jeff’s website         <www.glue.umd.edu/~singletn/exp.html> under the "Valve Cover Gaskets" menu item, or link directly to         <http://www.glue.umd.edu/~singletn/web/pages/valve.html> No pictures of this fun and exciting task, however.  ;-( dr bob
