Upcoming Ink
Question:
I’ll be sitting for a nice big lower-back piece on Monday afternoon. It’s a geometric thingy with a galaxy filling it. My first color, and bigger than all of my existing ink combined. I’ve been given the options of "all at once" and "outline now, fill later." I think I’m going with the former, because I think I can handle that fine. The galaxy is M82, the "Cigar Galaxy," for those inclined to enjoy such things. Look it up on NASA’s Pic O’ the Day, it’s a nice one. Now I have all weekend to get anticipatory. Thought I’d share. Now that I have digital camera connections I should have no excuse for not getting photos of EVERYTHING soon. Damn, do I suck. I’ve seen that one. It looks like a little smudge in my C-8, but it’s still great to look at. But I’m just an amateur astronomy geek. In other news, we saw "The Girl Next Door" today. It was very entertaining. If it comes to your town, see it. There was a little bit of sort-or-bodyart-related stuff in it in that we got to see Stacy Valentine having liposuction and having her breast implants replaced. Those scenes were a bit hard to watch, but maybe it’s just me. And I’m running my newly-hacked version of trn here, so I hope that the authentication stuff works so that this gets posted. — Stan Schwarz | "Pretty soon it will be chic to be geek"

Heh, I already got the Lewinsky jokes from my friends, phucking phalluses. It’s a beautiful galaxy, nice and bright in infrared, and the picture I used was during a nice big outflow of hydrogen. I’m excited both physically and astronomically.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a galaxy in a telescope I was using that looked like more than a smudge. I need to get me one of them there satellites.
My design (a very small picture of it) is at http://www.bmeworld.com/saram/designs/minim82.jpg Sara — saram AT wam.umd.edu, RANA-39 *amputate the ‘pinkies’ to reply* http://www.waxpaper.net "Always drive on roads, not on people." - Hyundai

Try M83. It’s bright and big enough to show structure, even in my little 4-inch 2045. >My design (a very small picture of it) is at >http://www.bmeworld.com/saram/designs/minim82.jpg
Hmm. Nice design, but doesn’t look a lot like a galaxy to me…

Sara, you rock. Definitely a BPB. BTW, I’m moving to Silver Spring in July. We’re gonna munch. Good luck and I can’t wait to see tattoo pics! Melissa =) — Melissa Lampert http://www.BMEworld.com/melissa

Noted. I should hopefully be at the observatory again soon, and I’ll check that out with one of the smaller scopes. > Hmm. Nice design, but doesn’t look a lot like a galaxy to me…
It’s not meant to. The fill is from a modified picture of a galaxy, you can see the elliptical shape in the bright areas, and the red is gaseous outflow. I think space makes nice fill.

Ahh. I see it now. Nice. Sort of like those damned ‘magic eye’ things…

Maybe, though less frustrating to me.
So Miles and I took a 2.5 hour roundtrip to and from Ambrotos only to find out that Mike wasn’t coming in due to some sort of bathroom fiasco. I was very much let down. If I didn’t seriously trust him and love his work, damn this pissed me off enough I might have asked for my design back and left. I hate wasting hours like that. So now I have to wait til he’s in again to make another appointment… waiting and then more waiting… <sigh> Sara — saram AT wam.umd.edu, RANA-39 *amputate the ‘pinkies’ to reply* http://www.waxpaper.net "Always drive on roads, not on people." - Hyundai
