Question:
Hello, the day after tomorrow I will fly to Australia with a stopover in Dubai (Emirates). Does anybody know whether prices for electronical stuff, especially digital photo cameras are favorible in Dubai 1. in the airport 2. in shops outside the airport compared to central Europe prices. And Australian prices. My experience is that prices in major discount outlets in Australia for electronic goods are better than so called duty free prices!!! Likely stores (in Brisbane): 1.Photo Continental at Mt Gravatt. 2.Ted’s Camera store in the City. 3.Anderson’s Camera in the City. 4.Rainer’s camera house in the City. Even Harvey Norman – a nationwide chain is worth visiting! — Paul O’Brien

The duty free in Dubai is pretty dammed impressive and the prices arent bad. What I’d suggest is you visit a few web sites and print out their prices and take that with you. That way you can compare at the shop. Make sure you know the Exchange rate for Euro’s to Dinars for this trick 
A couple of cautionary notes Dubai WILL almost certainly be cheaper because they dont charge VAT but you may have to pay this when you return to Germany Make sure that any camera you buy has a good international warranty. If it goes wrong you really dont want to take it back to Dubai for a refund. Keith
