I am looking to buy a digital camera in St maarten that in the states can be bought for $1400. What are the advantages and disadvantages of buying something there.

I’ve been visiting the island for 10 years or so favorite dive shop is Trade Winds at Great Bay Marina. Tom & staff know the spots to go & its one of the friendlest on the island. I think best snorkeling is at Dawn ,Orient & Rouge. I’ve purchased a camera or two ,U have to shop for best further away from dock, stop at the American Gift Shop Best Quality shirts on the Island Have fun; Sandy & Barry   — Barry c/o Lighthouse 116 S. My wife and I bought a Konica 140 zoom at Boolchands in Phillipsburg a couple of trips ago.  We were pleased with their selection and prices (as compared with prices in Minneapolis).  In doing a web search looking for the spelling of Boolchands just now I found that they have a web site (although it’s pitifully sparse and of course "Under Construction").  It’s a large store with lots and lots of cameras, so you’ll probably have a good chance of finding what you’re looking for. Their web site is http://www.boolchands.com/ wayne

I’m thinking of taking the Golden Eagle excursion in St. Maarten with my 23 year old son and 17 year old daughter.  Anyone done this?  Is it something both 51 year old dad and the kids might enjoy?  Thanks for your feedback

Response:

We (three middle-aged people) did it last year and loved it.  I highly recommend it.  It was a fun and festive excursion.  Just one recommendation – get one of those disposable water-proof cameras.  You may get splashed while on the catamaran.  The beach we sailed to was clothing-optional, but we didn’t let that bother us.  We just tried not to stare as we carried our towels to an different spot on the beach. Have a great cruise. Response:

Yes, all ages would enjoy it.  I’ve done it twice and it’s a lot of fun. Definitely take a waterproof camera!  And sit way out front — even more fun :-) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->I’m thinking of taking the Golden Eagle excursion in St. Maarten with my 23 >year old son and 17 year old daughter.  Anyone done this?  Is it something >both 51 year old dad and the kids might enjoy?  Thanks for your feedback
