Photo Download: Egypt – Mid-east

PROBLEM SOLVED in Dahab, Sinai, Egypt. I just spent several weeks traveling in Egypt and the Mid-east with my digital camera and, of course, faced the usual problem of how to download pictures from my memory so as to be able to take more pictures. Mr. Amin Fahmy runs White Hawk, a large Internet site in Dahab and has the ability to burn CD’s. He solved my problem and was very helpful to me as we downloaded over 100 MB. I took two things with me on my trip: a serial cable for my camera and (two) copies of CAME09 (on CD and 3.5"). [See companion post: Photo Download - CAME09 is great!!! (in rec.photo.digital)]. The software was installed, the camera hooked up, various cards downloaded, then a CD burned. The cost was no more than usual for internet use. The serial downloading did, of course, take some time. On the other hand, the process need not be attended full time and White Hawk is located in the center of "restaurant row" in Dahab (at Ali Baba) … thus a very nice place to be. If you face Perhaps if he gets enough business of this type, he could justify a card reader(s) so the process would be much faster.
