OTP, Test, don't bother opening…

Question:

I just tried to install my copy of Corel4 on to my new ME  and it just won’t do it. My hubby did some research and said that the Corel4 runs on a 16 bit system and ours is a 32 bit system? I dunno what that really means but it sucks cause Corel 10 is pricey.  <sigh> Micki

Couple of quick things, Norman.   Free Agent’s easy to use, and I hope you like it.  You can use the full-scale version, Agent, free for 30 days if you like; after that it loses some important functions *and* you can’t reconvert your files, so you’re probably wise to test Free Agent first. Second, some ME users are reporting problems with Agent stalling at startup; I don’t know if that’s true for Free Agent or not.  I think it’s related to some kind of automatic indexing in ME.  If you see symptoms email me and I’ll dig up the details. — Don

There are some definite differences between how some programs funtion under 95 and under Me. A few programs which run well under 95 are basically no-funtional under Me. Also, Me seems to read the floppy discs recorded by my Sony digital camera noticably different. Under 95, each .jpg showed up as two files, onewith .jpg and one with a numerical ext.  The files seem to be combined when reading under Me, so my older version of Hijaak Pro can’t open them. On the other hand, Me has a few tweaks and funtions which 95 doesn’t, including the ablility to read and open .zip’s without a seperate program (though I still use one) and support for USB. Find someone who is using Me and try it out before you decide. Or, if you got enough $$, buy a second hard drive, and install Me on it and swapp the drives back and forth (or see if any of the dual boot programs support Me). – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I’m trying out Forte Free Agent. > I was using Anawave Gravity, which I purchased several years ago and > which runs fine under Win95. Well, that’s a bummer.  I use Gravity, and I think it’s far and away the best newsreader out there.  Free Agent is frustrating compared to Gravity, but I’ve never tried the retail version.  Why would I, after hating the freeware version?  I was contemplating upgrading to WinMe, but now I’m going to have to re-think.  Do you have problems with other software and WinMe?   Why does everything have to be a damned trade-off?  <sigh> — Di "When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world"  John Muir Diane_Abell at msn dot com http://loveyourmother.homestead.com

I’m trying out Forte Free Agent. I was using Anawave Gravity, which I purchased several years ago and which runs fine under Win95. When I migrated to my new computer, running WinMe, I installed gravity and found that it has problems with the new OS. I have been unable to contact the current owners of the software for an upgrade (they don’t answer their phone, all I get is voice mail, and they don’t return calls or send e-mail). There were some things I liked about Gravity which Free Agent doen’t have, but which the retail version may have. I’ll try the freeware versio9n for a while and then decide. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I’m trying out a new news reader and I just thought I’d see who can’t > mind his or her own business… > "Give a small child a hammer > and all that he encounters > will require hammering" >     Ben Franklin > Norman Lampert > mr.bones.AT.att.net >So, what new newsreader, Norman?  Inquiring minds, and all that…… >– >Di >"When one tugs at a single thing in nature, >he finds it attached to the rest of the world"  John Muir >Diane_Abell at msn dot com >http://loveyourmother.homestead.com
