Not much faster, but it SOUNDS faster..removed the airbox resonator……

Question:

Rob, Any chance you can take a photo and post it?  I’d like to see how it looks like. I’m not sure which intake is the one which is normally open all the time.  I believe it’s the top one and the bottom one only opens above a certain rpm? PS I’ve got an EX

Response:

Somebody here borrowed my digital camera and it’s in europe at the moment…. basically take your airbox and imagine there’s nothing attached upstream of it.  If you look inside, you’ll see there are two intake holes. Here’s the procedure, roughly: 1) remove the filter cover/filter and remove two bolts that hold filter box, with pliers, squeeze and release wire tie-down that connects at front of filter box.  loosen phillips screw on hose clamp 2) carefully pull tubes out of side of filter box and pull out box 3) disconnect 2 prong connector from air control valve (near battery) 4) disconnect and plug vacuum hose that clips to front of air box 5) pull out all the plastic plumbing next to the battery.   6) remove the phillips screw that holds the solenoid valve. and remove it from the air intake valve assembly …plug this part back into the connector on the car….plug the hoses and wire-tie it in front of the battery (out of the way of the hood prop) 7) put the air box, filter, cover, etc back on.  Don’t forget to tighten hose clamp for intake tube! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Rob, >Any chance you can take a photo and post it?  I’d like to see how it looks >like. >I’m not sure which intake is the one which is normally open all the time.  I >believe it’s the top one and the bottom one only opens above a certain rpm? >PS I’ve got an EX

Just for grins, removed the air intake plumbing upstream of the air box on my 92 Accord EX.   Took out the air intake control system valve (left intake control solenoid valve plugged in to prevent ecu errors, plugged vacuum line) Now what i’ve got is the factory filter box/filter with two ~2" holes in the side.  Plan to cutout the end and make it a 3-4" opening with a horn-shaped snout (flared openings flow better than square openings) Below 2k, there’s no difference.  From about 3K to 6500, it sounds really really cool (WAAAAAAAHHHHH)…. My 0-60 time is no different, however.  I don’t have a place to test 1/4 mile time.  It feels stronger between ~3500-5000 to me. The EX motor has the dual-runner intake manifold and a higher lift intake cam than the LX/DX motor….
