New M5 – heartbreaking story
Question:
Went to a local BMW dealer to get a quote on some repairs that my car needed. Whilst there, saw a brand new M5 ‘lying’ on the road, minus wheels and tyres. Turned out that the owner had parked it outside the dealership the previous evening so the service guys could give it it’s first service the next morning. Overnight some thieves had jacked it up and pulled off the alloys (drilling out the locking nut). The jacks had then apparently collapsed, with the car falling onto it’s brake discs. I haven’t seen many sadder sights. If it was my car I would have cried for days! It’s going to cost a fortune…
Response:
If that were my car I think I would be suicidal… If you have a digital camera you should post a pic. As sadistic as it sounds I would love to see it. -Mike

Maybe a BMW dealership is an easy target for crooks. Most probably see them rims in Loot.com next week! that? We all do. ;oP

I agree, I think, really sucks, but it’s not the end of the world or the car. I’ll bet Bmw has it back on its feet in no time at all, hell probably a day, two tops. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Isn’t this what an insurance adjuster would call "envy damage." Yup, the insurance company holds it up as an example of the scary things that could happen, and uses it to justify higher rates for everyone. For a few dollars invested in a well-publicized payout, they reap millions in higher premiums from all of us. Matt O.

Wait! One of us should volunteer to buy this totaled wreck for $2000! Yeah, dude, I wanna put that motor in my 2002! Matt O.

Isn’t this what an insurance adjuster would call "envy damage." It isn’t an "act of God!" It will be fixed I’m sure.

Were insurance lobbyists on the grassy knoll, too? Most of those companies are either publicly traded or policyholder-owned. Either way, their financials are available. Yes, they frequently screw folks, but not always, and if they’re reaping inordinate profits we could find out directly.

maybe it was a set-up!

I believe it was parked just outside the service center, so it would be first in line next morning; leaving the keys in the drop box; and my question about who pays for that, who’s insurance, since it would seem that the driver had turned the car over to the dealership at the time he dropped the keys in the drop box???? Who is responsible for the damage, who’s insurance? j – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->I agree, I think, really sucks, but it’s not the end of the world or the car. >I’ll bet Bmw has it back on its feet in no time at all, hell probably a day, > two >tops. > Wouldn’t leaving a new M5 parked overnight on the street qualify as one of > the stupidest things one can do..?
Response:
Since the dealership didnt ask him to drop it of early – its his own insurance (in the US anyway). But being non colision dammage, his rates shouldn’t go up. Hey, I never lock my doors either. A habit I acquired when I owned convertibles, and there wasn’t anything inside more valuable than the soft top. Now I’ve concluded that there’s a cost to having your car trashed, but there’s an incremental psychic cost to consistently fearing the worst. I’ve decided the tradeoff isn’t worth it. Go ahead, take my radio. I can replace it.
