Question:

Glad one of misses it, cause I sure don’t. The Capt. never picked a good fishin hole guess he couldn’t read the graph very good:) — Chuck Coger

Forget the trolling motor, how long of a net do you need???? (snip) (snip) The trolling motor information is classified. If I told I would have to ( thought I was going to say kill you , didn’t  ya). Actually I would hire Craig to do it with his Rambo Survivalist knife that his mom gave him. Actually it’s a Grumman F-14 Tomcat sitting on the fantail with afterburners on. The ships company guys did fish off the back of them whenever we ported. I was airwing and not welcome down there. That’s the U.S.S. America. My boat before that was bigger (the Nimitz ) but I couldn’t find a good picture of it in my cruise book. And they said steel wouldn’t float. Geez, I miss that life sometimes. — Release em today so they can play again tomorrow. Practice CPR. catch photo release.

Sooo….what kinda trolling motor do you use?

Response:

I’ll betcha that tackle storage isn’t a problem and that the rod lockers are long enough.  But the trolling motor would have to be at least a 24 volt system. :)

John, Steve Huber wrote an excellent FAQ some time back about the advantages and disadvantages of aluminum and fiber boats.  Take a look at:     http://rofb.home.mindspring.com/alum-vs-fiber.html —    Go Fishing.  And may your fish be as big as your tales.    Columbia, SC  Lake Murray

Thanks Bob, I was going to answer him today but I couldn’t remember if it was in the FAQ’s or not. —

Looking to buy my first bass boat this year. Don’t want to spend over 10K or so. Trying to decide between a used glass boat with at least a 150HP, or a slightly used tracker style aluminum with a 60-90HP. Any advice you guys can give is appreciated. I live in MA. Thanks John

Response:

The glass boat will give you a much better ride and rough water capability than the Tracker.  On the other hand, the Tracker will be a lot more fuel efficient and easier to tow.  If you do not plan on using it a lot in salt water the Tracker may be better for you – a lot will depend on your tow vehicle.  In either case, at a minimum, have a knowledgeable friend go with you to check the rig out AND have a MARINE mechanic check out the engine.  I would also avoid the "Ficht" engines, especially now that OMC has gone belly up. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Looking to buy my first bass boat this year. Response:

I just returned from MA. I would definetly stick with glass. Much better ride and power. If your fishing tourneys the livewell systems are typically better. In your area it is possible people run there boats in Saltwater, if in doubt always ask. I keep meticulous records on my boat, and when I sell it the future owner will be assured of all the up keeps on the mechanics. Also since you are in a cold weather area ask about how the boat was stored, was it winterized? Was it stored inside, check for fading and look for a transferable hull warranty. One good resource I recommend is http://www.traderonline.com this will help locate any used boats in your area, as well see if a potential buy is in the correct price range. If I was looking at an Aluminum boat I would look for an Xpress http://www.xpressboats.com you can hang a 200hp off the back and the ride is very comparable to a glass ride. — HTH Chuck Coger

Thanks John John!! I have owned 5 Tracker Boats & loved them all !!!! The New Tracker rides Much smoother now with the new designed hull. I think for the money you can’t beat the 17.5 or the 18 footer & with the 60 /70/90 hp engine it will get you where you want to go in pretty short order. BTW you will be able to get in some places where those 30,000 dollar boats can’t go.:-) They also come fully equipped all you have to do is put the gas in it & go but don’t forget your life jackets & other safty equipment. Good Luck !!! If you have ANY questions about the Tracker just e-mail me !!! Gone Fishin "Catch & Release" Abe Watson
