Monte Carlo Trouble Continued….
Question:
Well, I noticed something fishy the other day when I was changing my spark plug wires and I thought I would take another look at it this morning with my digital camera in hand. http://www.apical.ca/stevemackie/no_bolt_2.jpg Let me know what you guys think poor idle problem could be now…. Response:
Well, if this is a vacuum port where is the fitting and the connections? Or if this is a plugged port, get it plugged, unmetered air will lean the engine.

Steve, those empty bolt holes are normal. The intake manifold gasket is made of quite heavy rubber gasket material bonded to the metal gasket. The bolts that hold the intake in place are at an angle so that they can secure the intake to the heads. When you install the intake manifold on a new gasket, the gasket needs to be compressed enough to be able to line up the intake bolts. Those two empty bolts are so that you can intall two bin bolts temporarily and pull the intake manifold down into the correct position so that you can get the "real" bolts started. Geez, if you’ve got the engine stripped down that far, intall new lower intake manifold gaskets. If you have a vacuum leak from the lower intake gasket, it should be quite obvious when you pull it apart. Ian

Thanks for the info. BTW, you only have to take the plastic fuel rail cover off to see it. Steve — Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
