London electronics shops?

Question:

All the newsgroup reading I’ve done has brought me to the conclusion that I should buy a battery charger for UK AC voltage for my trip to keep my little digital camera happy. The charger I have is not dual-voltage, and regular batteries last about 12 shots and then poop out.  I figure it’s worth getting a charger for the three weeks I’ll be in the UK. Is there a good electronics type shop somewhere in central- ish London that someone can recommend? ..jenny

Why not buy the charger before you leave home? If you are coming from the USA, just stop by your local Radio Shack. They’ll have what you need at a reasonable price.

Actually, you want to buy your converter in the US before you go.  It will step down the voltage, but the current’s frequency is slower; you may want to double-check and see if that will be a problem for a battery charger.   Then again, you could just take an old fashioned film camera which uses batteries you can buy in any store on either side of the Atlantic.  :-)

This may not be useful for you as you may not have a car for London.  Some chargers will run from the cigarette lighter socket, we use a Maha MH-C240F, it comes with such a cable.  The other alternative is a small 120v converter which runs from the cigarette lighter socket. Jenny asks "The charger I have is notdualvoltage, and regular batteries last about 12 shots and then poop out.  I figure it’s  worth getting a charger for the three weeks I’ll be in the UK. Is there a good electronics type shop somewhere in central-ish London that someone can recommend" You will do much better and far cheaper at any Radio Shack store  getting a 230  to 120 VAC transformer for your charger than shopping on Tottenham Road. It sometimes is a mugs game shopping on that street in terms of prices. Michael Schneider San Francisco, CA.
