Just picked up my PT Limited

Question:

Took about 3 months from the time I ordered but my wife and I just picked up our Taupe (totally cool color!) PT Cruiser, limited with ABS, CD player, 5 spd., leather, moonroof, etc.  Sticker was $19990, dealer added his "protection package" (paint protection and matshield???) which bumped the price up $1K. Just under $23K total out the door. Interestingly, I didn’t know if you got ABS you also got rear disc brakes and traction control. So far I like it.  Clutch feel is too light, and I haven’t yet wound out the motor to see how she moves (gotta break it in) but so far it is pretty whimpy in the power dept even for a manual 5 spd. Dave

Response:

Dave, You wouldn’t be willing to take a couple extra good pictures of your Taupe PT so I can see how that color looks, would you???  It’s the one I’m interested in buying and all I’ve actually laid eyes on have been several silver ones and one blue.  Personally I like everything I buy to be black–but this is going to be someone’s Christmas present and that’s the color they like–looking at the paint samples Chrysler sent me a few months ago.  (This is going to be a surprise for the receipient… :) Bull – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Took about 3 months from the time I ordered but my wife and I just picked up our > Taupe (totally cool color!) I was told by the dealer that two customers that came in to place a PT order and saw mine in the Taupe and decided to get taupe.  When I was doing the acceptance check off, the car was surrounded by people commenting "wow, that’s way better looking than the red or the silver". Taupe looks REALLY good!  It matches the interior color really well too.  Here’s a link to some pictures I took today.  I should have taken some later in the afternoon because the color does change depending on the sky color and whatever is around the car. Here’s the link for my pictures taken around noon time in Southern Calif. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=724500&a=7309372 – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Dave, >You wouldn’t be willing to take a couple extra good pictures of your Taupe >PT so I can see how that color looks, would you???  It’s the one I’m >interested in buying and all I’ve actually laid eyes on have been several >silver ones and one blue.  Personally I like everything I buy to be >black–but this is going to be someone’s Christmas present and that’s the >color they like–looking at the paint samples Chrysler sent me a few months >ago.  (This is going to be a surprise for the receipient… :)

Looks nice.  Too bad we are stuck in a 2-plate state. -=Bear=- Carmichael CA

Here’s a really good picture of a taupe PT cruiser. As the person mentions, and I agree, it is the ONLY color that looks good with the stock bumpers (unpainted grey) http://ptenthusiasts.org/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.cgi?action=Rea… – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Dave, >You wouldn’t be willing to take a couple extra good pictures of your Taupe >PT so I can see how that color looks, would you???  It’s the one I’m >interested in buying and all I’ve actually laid eyes on have been several >silver ones and one blue.  Personally I like everything I buy to be >black–but this is going to be someone’s Christmas present and that’s the >color they like–looking at the paint samples Chrysler sent me a few months >ago.  (This is going to be a surprise for the receipient… :)

Thanks Dave!!!  I’m *still* going to have to look at one in person, but would need to see a black one too…  It does look nice.  I was thinking the taupe might give the PT a more sophisticated look and it does. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I was told by the dealer that two customers that came in to place a PT order and > saw mine in the Taupe and decided to get taupe.  When I was doing the acceptance > check off, the car was surrounded by people commenting "wow, that’s way better > looking than the red or the silver". > Taupe looks REALLY good!  It matches the interior color really well too. I have long maintained (and still do even after seeing these pics) that taupe is a non-color. It is one of the epidemic of bland neutral shades that has taken over the auto industry the last few years. Just my $0.02, but I for one would love to see a PT in something a little more colorful. Even some of the light metallic greens and golds from the early 70’s would be neat on that car. Of the PTs I’ve seen so far, by far the best-looking was one in dark red metallic with chrome wheels. Makes the silver look positively blah. BTW, up the street from me is the home of an independent used car dealer who deals in interesting stuff, no junk. He currently has 2 silver PTs in his driveway, presumably for his own use, but every car he drives is for sale. Apparently he picked them up hoping to make a quick profit on a flip and it has failed to happen, so he’s driving them. Dunno if supply is picking up from DC, if demand is fizzling (somehow I doubt it) or (most likely) he is just asking too much of a premium.

The picts at photopoint I took of my own PT was indeed taken with my Koday DC290.  I got it from mobshop.com for $527′ish delivered!
