Internet cafes between Antigua and Grenada?
Question:
I’ll be on a windjammer cruise between Antigua and Grenada. Are there any internet cafes on any of the islands between–and including–these two islands? I would appreciate an email reply as well as posting here. Many thanks. Was in Grenada and Antigua a year ago. Found an Internet Cafe in St. Georges. It was in the commercial section of downtown a few blocks from the tourist section by the water. Don’t remember what it was called. But it was quite satisfactory. And hallelujah – it was air conditioned. It was on the 2nd floor of a building. They were quite acommodating setting me up with a brand new PC allowing me to download images from a digital camera via USB. They were reasonably priced too. I did not look for a Cafe on Antigua, but I’d be very surprised if they didn’t have several. It’s a good way for the locals to make money off the tourists. There were many of them in the area I stayed on St. Lucia. It’s possible that you won’t be able to find one on a tiny island. But be sure to ask. The Lonely Planet Guides list Internet Cafes for the Caribbean. Have fun!

Harlan, There’s at least one bar with internet access in Antigua very close to where the Mandalay docks. I found it just strolling by while waiting to board. There are a couple of internet cafes along the waterfront on Bequia, which you’ll visit about midway on the sail. And there are several places along the Carenage in St. Georges, Grenada. I usually visit the Carenage Cafe (look for the outdoor cafe seating with a green and white striped awning) and there’s another place near it. I would also expect that you’d be able to find something in Martinique and St. Lucia. Best bet on any of the islands is to ask the purser or activities mate. They’ll know what’s available nearby. I guess that’s the one a few blocks inland in central St.John’s. There also used to be one at the marina in English Harbour, but not sure if it’s open to the public or just yachtees. — Ken Tough

Just returned from 10 days sailing around Martinique. Found internet Cafes at all the larger anchorages in the south, Marin, St. Anne, Anes Mitan, etc… Great trip, wonderful island. -Wyatt New Orleans – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Harlan, > There’s at least one bar with internet access in Antigua very close to > where the Mandalay docks. Many of the accommodations in that region are guest houses and apart-hotels under the managment of on-premises owners. They are often willing to let you to use their office computer and connection for brief periods. Some charge a modest fee. I’ve never been gouged. I’ve found this to be true throughout the area I know best, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. I’ve used connections in many properties on St. Vincent, Bequia and Union Island over the past four years. But since you wuill be on a Windjammer cruise and not likley to be a land guest, be assured there are public access places in Georgetown, St. Vincent and at Port Elizabeth on Bequia. I am not aware of an Internet Cafe on Union but the Anchorage Yacht Club (www.ayc-hotel-greandines.com) offers fee-based email access to visitors. Iv never noted any on Mustique. The isalnd office at Petit St. Vincent offers a fee based access. Hmm, I just remembered, on my last Union Island visit, I recall seeing a sign for internet access. If you walk along the main street from the Clifton Beach Hotel, towards the post office, there is one on the second floor above one of the shops on your right. And, there is also one in the shopping arcade next to the Anchorage Yacht Club. But its always been closed every time I walked by. Have a good trip.

I was backpacking from Grenada up to Bequia and I can assure you that there are internet cafes available. – In St Georges on Grenada there’s at least three. One at the end of the Carenage and two on opposite sides of the market. – On Carriacou there’s two, as far as I know, both on the main street. Take left at when you leave the jetty, after 2-300m you’ll see one on the left side(that’s John who runs the Grenadines.net site) and after another 200m when the road splits there is one on the second floor of the building on the right. – On Union Island I saw two. One is on the road to the airport, left side about 3-400m before the airport…just after the entrance to the Yach Club. And another one is over by Lambies place…across the street from Lambies and about 200m in the direction towards Ashton. – On Bequia there’s several. From the dock take left about 300m and on the right side is an air-co place with ADSL hook-up. There’s at least two if you take right from the dock. One behind the house right after the Bistro on the left and another one by The Ginger Bread hotel 5 min walk further along the beachwalk. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I’ll be on a windjammer cruise between Antigua and Grenada. In addition to the ones in Hillsborough, there is at least one in Tyrrel Bay for the sailors. Don <donwiss at panix.com>.
