How come I can't seem to get a photo of my back tattoo in focus?
Question:
Every time I try it comes out fuzzy. It wasn’t happening with the digital camera so I tried with the old 35mm… and it comes out fuzzy again! Drat, curses etc etc. Anyway, this is still out of focus but it’s the best I have — http://homepage.ntlworld.com/clearwater/orange.gif — quite a lot of detail is lost. For example, you can’t really see that the stamens are highlighted at the tips in red, or the shadow effects of the watershading between & around the flowers and leaves. BTW my skin is rosy and my hair wet as I had just come out of a nice hot bath and not because of some other, less wholesome activity

Could it be too close or not enough light? Maybe your tattoo is fuzzy? :)

I suggest using a different photographer

Well, it was the husband and, bless him, he has other skills

The photo is out of focus. Either the photographer didn’t focus properly or was too close for the lens used. Besides, to show the detail in your flower one would have to be closer than was used in your posted photo. Fill the frame with the flower and then see if it can be focused. If it can’t, you may need one of two things, a MACRO LENS that can focus at closer distances than your regular lens OR perhaps a Diopter that you can put over your regular lens to also allow the lens to focus at those closer distances. Many digital cameras are autofocus and have a macro feature so they can focus at those closer distances. Why not take the photo with the digital camera and take the images on the card to a Sam’s. The prints they do are every bit as good as film camera prints. — Robbie

Maybe the tattoo itself is out of focus. How good is the artist?
