Fourth little chick, was Re: Second little chick
Question:
Leave um alone granny, they are fine. Most of the time they will not come out of the box until they fledge. Are you still going to handfeed them? Baby birds do not need fresh air and sunshine, they need quiet to sleep in and food. Do you have any experienced handfeeders in the area? You need some calm, experienced person to help you get started. If you chose to NOT hand feed it might be ok, seems like the parents might be mello enough for you to do a daily handling of the babies. This will not bring them to "handfed" tameness but they still can become sweet little demons. No, just three – you should see their little bald wings – they try to flap around – eyes closed – I could watch them for hours. Nice to have you back, Janet. Andee

I will get the photos and the web address tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for all the kind words. So far there is Heckle and Jekyl (sorry, Marco), and Freddie. I think this is all we are going to have. The other two eggs are being ignored and Daisy is mainly taking care of the three. The first little chick is SO BIG!!! They are adorable and I wish I could pick them up and give them kisses on their blue, bulging, closed eyes! They are extremely active and she tries to sit on them and they keep wandering out from under her. I feel that they need fresh air and sunshine. How soon can I keep the next box open all the time? I am afraid they are going to turn into little moles sitting in the dark all the time. This weekend I am going to have to devise a plan. When and if I am going to pull them – I need to know exactly what I am doing before I even attempt it. Mamabird and Mr. Wheeler and going to be sick and tired of Andee’s chicks before this is all over!

Ohhhhh Andee… you make me want to start breeding tiels again! (No no! I didn’t say that!) I’m so anxious to see the pictures. Cool that they’ll post them on a website for you! Yes, I had convinced myself that Aruba was a girl. My DIL who originally had Aruba said that she, too, was convinced. I have so many "guy" birds; I really had my heart set on a little girl this time. I’m SO thrilled! Anxiously awaiting your baby pictures! :) — Mama ~^~^~^~ Visit Mamabird’s Nest: <http://iluvbirds.tripod.com/> And My Photo Album at: <http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=442768> -To email me: change nest to net- "It is not only fine feathers that make fine birds." – Aesop

I took the roll in on Sunday. I have not been out shopping for a digital camera as I am still not fit for shopping or visitors. I still have the darnedest bronchial thing. Anyway, I tried something new. Along with a CD, I was able to have the developer post the entire roll of film on a website. This should be fun. The first little chick is getting big and I can hear him begging. He screeches. I can’t get anywhere near the chicks as Oscar attacks my hands and draws blood. I am pretty sure I just saw a fourth chick. All I see are little heads bobbing around, and these strange looking feet that appear as though they are growing out of the chicks’ neck. Now that would I do with a nestful of deformed cockatiels? Apparently the adults are feeding them well – they are going through an enormous amount of wet food. I was amazed at how fast the grow fuzz. One is yellow fuzz and the others are whitish. – I have a long row to hoe in two weeks if I pull them. I am going to have to get them out of the nest box. It is too small for the two adults right now. Dimensions are probably 14 x 14 x 18. You know how women get confused when we start talking about inches! (old joke. Sorry). Mama! I am delighted that Aruba is a girl! You thought that all along, did you not? Thank you, everyone, for all the kind words and support. I will have more questions as time goes on. Andee
