I don’t know… Debbie had aqua/green eyes when young, but they became a regular green as she aged.  Demelza (10 yrs. old) had copper eyes when she was younger, but they’re now yellow.  I didn’t notice just when they changed – at maybe 5 – 6 years old??  Hadn’t/haven’t noticed changes in my other cats’ eye colors. > 2. I think medium haired might have a "real" name, but can’t remember what it is, if there is one.  Anyway, just what it says – not short, not really long, either.  I’ve had both long & short-haired cats, & have known a couple of medium-haired ones.  Kittens, even (eventually) short-haired ones, tend to be pretty fluffy when really little. > 3. Yep, maybe he’s just mouthy. ;-)  My Sabina was a very quiet cat, Debbie was talkative & loud only when begging for food – otherwise didn’t say "boo", Demelza tends to talk a lot – about everything, & Herrie’s a fairly quiet cat.  All different. > 4. What is the consensus on the best age to neuter? > Ray

There probably is no consensus, even among vets. ;-)  I’d neuter him by 5 months old.  Although might do it anywhere between 3 & 5 months.  (Would want to get it done before he even thinks about starting to spray…) Cathy — "Staccato signals of constant information…" ("The Boy in the Bubble")  Paul Simon

Yoda is cute!  I will post Mason pix as soon as I get my roll developed.  I don’t have a digital camera, so I’ll have to scan. BTW, Mason is this beige-ish color, lighter and browner than the picture of Yoda and he has no white on him.  What is this color called?  Is it cream tiger? I plan to clip Mason’s claws with my handy clipper.  He seems to be OK with it, though at his age he’s so active and squirmy he doesn’t like to be held for long.  I don’t believe in declawing and have resolved myself not to care if they shred my stuff.  After all, cats are cats, and if you want an animal that doesn’t have claws, get a snake, right? I’m not sure. I’ve heard "cream" and also "cameo" and am not sure of the proper term. It’s a very  unusual color though, and very pretty. Do his extra claws retract? Yoda’s don’t, so we have to clip them regularly. He’s pretty old now, so  he’s used to it and barely puts up a fuss at all. The extra claws seem to grow very fast. One "toe" wasn’t a toe at all, just a claw sticking out of some tissue, and it caused problems growing into the tissue of the next toe, and the vet removed that claw. But we’ve had no problems with the rest, and he’s generally a very good boy and doesn’t scratch the furniture. Sherry

I had a cat named Tommy who was that color exactly.  He was the coolest cat ever, and it broke my heart when he died two years ago…so when I saw another kitty who looked like him, I had to have him.  Cameo tiger, is that what it’s called?  I’ve never heard that before but I like it. > Do his extra claws retract?

Hmm, let me check…they seem not to.  The vet said that all three extra toes are thumbs, so maybe that’s why. > One "toe" wasn’t a toe at all, just a claw sticking out of some > tissue, and it caused problems growing into the tissue of the next toe, and > the vet removed that claw.

That’s how Mase is– he’s got the two toes, and then this random claw growing between the main foot and the thumb portion.  I didn’t even notice that one until the vet pointed it out. > But we’ve had no problems with the rest, and he’s > generally a very good boy and doesn’t scratch the furniture.

How can you tell if it’s bothering him?  Does he get an abrasion, lick a lot?  I’ll have to keep an eye on this. Thanks, Ray

It would become "ingrown" into the tissue. I didn’t know anything about polys when he was little, and didn’t really check that little hidden pseudo-claw. As for the rest of the claws that don’t retract, they don’t bother  him at all. I just keep them clipped because if they grow long, he hangs them in the carpet. He really has learned to use those "thumbs" though. He’s a master at opening doors and cabinets. It’s really cute. Sherry

Mason’s eyes are now copper with blue rings on the outside.  They look really cool and I hope they stay that way.  He’s 9 weeks old now. 2. How do I know if he’ll be long or short haired?  He’s got long tufts on his face near his ears, and a puffy chest.  On his back there are hairs about 1.5 inches long, very fluffy.  However, his tail seems regular, not thick like a long-haired cat.  The vet said he would be "medium -aired."  Not sure what that means, since all my cats have been short-haired. 3. Is it normal for kittens to meow a lot?  He meows when he goes to the litter pan, meows when I pick him up, meows when he’s running around.  Meows when you wake him up from sleep too.  Maybe he’s just mouthy, I don’t know. 4. What is the consensus on the best age to neuter? Ray

Congrats on Mason’s adoption. :-)  He sounds like a real cutie. If you start now, you’ll probably be able to keep Mason’s claws clipped – esp. the extra ones – the ones pointing toward the "main" part of his paws, to prevent them from rubbing against the other part of his paws & irritating him.

Sherry
