Eastern europe for digital camera/camcorder, compared to uk?
Question:
Hi, I am heading off on Sunday morning and this is my last chance to buy the toy that has been top of my wish list for quite some time now, a digital camera. I will be going away for a month and I am bringing my slr with me, the problem is that I will end up probably taking between 20-25 rolls of film, which will cost me a fortune in both purchasing the film and developing it. I was thinking of trying to get a camera while I was away as I will be mostly in Eastern European countries (Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Check Republic) I was hoping it might be significantly cheaper but I can’t seem to find any websites selling this equipment so that I can compare prices. If anyone would have any ideas it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

On caveat.. Warranty… It is possible that a warranty for a camera bought in one country is not valid in the country you live in. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Hi, > I am heading off on Sunday morning and this is my last chance to buy the toy > that has been top of my wish list for quite some time now, a digital camera. > I will be going away for a month and I am bringing my slr with me, the > problem is that I will end up probably taking between 20-25 rolls of film, > which will cost me a fortune in both purchasing the film and developing it. > I was thinking of trying to get a camera while I was away as I will be > mostly in Eastern European countries (Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Check > Republic) I was hoping it might be significantly cheaper but I can’t seem to > find any websites selling this equipment so that I can compare prices. > If anyone would have any ideas it would be much appreciated. > Thanks in advance

I have just noticed my spell check is renaming countries !!! I don’t mind about the warranty, I will just insure it when I get home. If I make a substantial saving it will be well worth it.

One of the very few things that are more expensive here (speaking for Czech Republic) are latest electronic gadgets (small market problem). Few addresses if you want to try anyway (in Czech) http://www.megapixel.cz/ceny.htm http://www.aaron.cz/ http://www.gfoto.cz/ Beware, sometimes they mention price without VAT (bez DPH) sometimes with VAT (s DPH). VAT is 22% and you could get it reimbursed on leaving country. Regards, Ondrej

I’d say you wont have a problem getting the *very* latest toys there, but you need a: check the price, and b: make sure you get the vat back on the way out. Slovenia was famous for its duty free shops which sold toys to Austrians but a recent poster said most have been closed. Just make sure you do the vat paperwork correctly.
