Computer picture fun!

Question:

> Hey, Mary > Great action shot in the Grand Canyon.  Are you a > photographer? > Loujean

I do some, but I have a friend who has a fabulous telephoto lens and he shoots while we go through the rapids.  I shoot mostly slides, but I think a digital camera would be a blast.  I am waiting for prices to dip.  With a telephoto lens it stacks the water right behind the raft. Actually we were a little further away from that hole than it looks, and had a great run.  I was absolutely terrified before we launched into the rapid because as you can see the water is huge. — MZ

The outfit is a "rental" the Chinese have a box of costumes you can slip into, like our old west pictures. Think I’ll try Everest on the next trip. I don’t have a static IP address.  My modem is a digital cable modem; so I keep the computer and modem on.  It does not tie up my phone the way a usual modem would.  I am going to try a web page when I get some time. — MZ

Thanks for sharing the pictures, Mary!  I really enjoyed them, and you have such a kind and lovely face.  Seeing you doing all those great things makes me feel like I will get my life back fully if I just keep at it. >, I was in the mild > category back in 95. <snip>

If you have the time, could you (and anyone else who would care to jump in)please describe a little what RA was like for you when you were diagnosed as "mild category" and a little of what category you are in now, and what that is like. I am thinking in terms of how much pain, joint swelling, overall feeling of illness, and how much it limited your functioning. I have read the ACR guidelines as to the categories, but am still confused what constitutes "mild", "moderate" or "severe".  I’d really appreciate it if I could compare notes a little on this.  Liz G

Well, we have another Grand Canyon permit coming up next year.  I am not sure if I will be able to do it, depends on my wrists  I would have to be in much better shape, because it is a physical trip…300 miles. Earlier this year without E it would have been out of the question. I decided to do Tibet because I wanted to seize the moment. My physical condition was deteriorating, and it was my dream.  The gift of RA is that I am more spontaneous and seize the moment.   When I feel good I just do it. — MZ – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

Really cool pictures Mary.  I did that white water rafting thing once about 6 years ago and will never do it again.  I was scared shitless and there was only two per raft.  Every time we went over a falls our raft was filled with water and us two females were too weak to dump the raft over to get the water out so two guys always had to wait for us to help.  We were the last two to come in over the last falls with everybody watching and they laughed I also have a scanner; my husband got it for me for X-mas but it hasn’t left Jeannette – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I have been playing with my scanner and my Mac web sharing capabilities. >  I have scanned 3 photos and have them in my personal web sharing > folder.  It is kind of fun because the server is the the hard drive of > my computer.  When you access this site you will be accessing my Mac > computer.  Mac sure makes this easy.  I took the photos on the N Fork of > the Flathead (99) (E is in the cooler), another photo of me on the roof > of the Potala palace in Tibet (98) and the third photo was taken in 95 > on the Grand Canyon, that’s me rowing Crystal rapid, I was in the mild > category back in 95. You were CWI! Good thing the paddle police didn’t get you because with all that beer you would have had to piddle in paddle prison and that’s a pisser.  I’ll bet those canoes didn’t have much freeboard with all that beer and a carcass on board.  – MZ

Well, after seeing the one of you in the Grand Canyon, I’m not sure I want to do that.  That looked like some rough water.  I loved the pic of you in Tibet. Absolutely breathtaking. Hayyy Mary,  Nice to put a face on someone talked to everyday.  One time 40 years ago, me and couple of friends went half way to the gulf on the sabine river.  Caught fish-ate what we caught-slept on sand bars-drank up 10 cases of beer and used up several bottles of mosquito spray.  Only had to go back up river one time to pick up a guy named Jim that was sound asleep on a sandbar with no shirt on and the sun make him very much half indian. LOL on the right side.  Thanks for the pictures. Hi Mary.  I gave it whirl and had no problem at all viewing your pictures.  Great pictures too.  Just to experiment I downloaded them and was able to save them to my ASA pictures file.  If you would rather I hadn’t, email me and I’ll delete them.  I really like the Grand Canyon picture.  I’ve done a lot of canoeing but never rafted. Looks like a lot of fun.  I don’t think my joints could handle that kind of excercise though.
