Response:
I recommend a fairly large soft sack as a "purse". It can hold the cameras & film. Your oversize bag depends on the loading staff and which dimension is oversize. If it won’t fit under the seat or in the overhead they will probably make you check it. Personally, my travel jackets have extra pockets built in for documents & emergencies. Practically no garment pockets will take airline tickets. Unfortunately, it’s mostly the whim of the security screeners. I’ve seen situations where people could have brought 3 steamer trunks, and a few cases where people were sent to the checkin desk if their main carryon was a fraction of an inch larger than the template, or if their second carryon wasn’t explicity a purse, briefcase, or laptop. There’s usually more flexibility during off-hours at secondary airports than at major hubs. If your oversized carryon is too long, you’ll probably be OK. If it’s too wide or high, and won’t clear a template, it could be a problem. Unless you’re willing to take the risk of being sent to wait in line and checking a carryon, I wouldn’t push the envelope. Also, you may be asked to turn on your video and digital camera- so don’t pack them too deeply. Ken Ishiguro

My husband and I will each have one carry on but we are wondering if we can also bring a small bag with our video camera, digital camera and extra film. Northwest said they do allow "extras" such as camera’s but I can’t get a decent answer as to whether or not several can be put in a bag and brought on. Since I will not be carrying a purse I may also have my drivers license, itinerary, etc in one of the pockets. Also, I am wondering how picky they are on the size of a carryon. Our one bag is two inches over their specifications and I was wondering how they determine if they will let it on? Thanks a lot.
