Alesis Studio 32

Question:

Ok, in that regard, here’s the good points: 1. Having direct Outs AND Ins on every channel is very cool 2. The Monitor bus is VERY cool… easy to get great headphone mixes 3. The Stereo Aux returns have been dynamite… use them all the time. 4. The true-parametric midrange has been a life saver with drummers who don’t know how to tune their kits. 5. VERY small footprint, lots of channels. 6. Signal light AND clip light is a nice feature on a board this small. 7. Two headphone sends… didn’t think this was going to be cool, but it is! Bad points: 1. Overdubs are a PAIN, unless you’re working with 8 channels or less.  With my ADAT HD24, I get the nastiest digital feedback you could imagine if I don’t send the HD24’s return to a different channel. 2. For studio work, the additional aux sends (5/6) are virtually worthless, but they work great for live sound. 3. You need a very deep rack to mount it with the supplied rails and still have room to plug and unplug stuff. 4. Equalization you set on the channel does NOT get recorded. Other than those points, I love it… great little mixer for almost no money, and the only one in its price range that has direct IN on every channel. $350-450 for a lightly used one would be a decent price, and it has more price-per-pound features than any desk on the market.  The mic pre’s are comparable to a Mackie, and much better than a Behringer.
