a simple hose question

Question:

hi, On my 2.7L inline six, there is a hose that stretches from the brake master cylinder housing to the right side of the air intake manifold. This stretch of hose is actually two hoses connected with an odd looking hose connector that widens in the middle, right at the mid-section. My question is, is this hose connector necessary, is it common to other cars in this forum, or can I buy a new hose in one piece. I know it’s kind of an odd question, but the connector I’m referring to is a little different looking, and it’s leaky at that. It’s a two-tone plastic piece, white and black, and looks very similar to a toy top. You can rotate the white section. I honestly have no idea what it does, other than connect the hoses. I wish I had a picture, a digital camera is in my future. tia metheny

Sounds like the check valve, part # 34331151532, about $12. It’s necessary and is used on all BMWs with vacuum boosters.

Be sure to put the new one in the same direction (that’s why one side is black and one white).
