Nice photo, Bob, and I’m glad you’ve got a hobby that gets you out of the house more often. I recognize that fellow, though–and I’m surprised you don’t. His name is Reginald Thorpe, and he was in the news several months ago because his wife vanished under mysterious circumstances. I’m a bit vague on the details, but an extensive investigation failed to locate her–living or dead. There was also something about a wood-chipper machine that disappeared from a nearby construction site at roughly the same time. What, exactly, is he feeding these birds that gets their attention so, and has them clamoring for more? Jef.

About 20 yrs ago, to see me through college, I got interested in Photography. I haven’t picked up a camera for 20 yrs until last summer when I picked up a cheap second hand Nikon and went up to the City(London) to shot off some black and white film for something to do. Strolling round St James’ Park on a hot summers Sunday Afternoon, I suddenly came across a chap surrounded by birds all flapping and hovering around him. I couldn’t quite believe what I was looking at a first, but the short and long of it is that this guy tames Gulls and other wild birds. Coming to the main Parks of London every Sunday, he tags, records and tames Gulls, while all other dazed infidels like myself, just stand around gazing on in utter amazement. Apparently, the Sunday Times supplement published an article featuring his activitites a year or so back. Anyway, I got chatting to him and decided to try and shot a few shots and this is about the best I could come up with. I’ve got very little interest in birds, but this was really pretty damn fascinating, especially the extraordinary way in which these birds would just circle and swoop down to collect food from his raised hand. A mate of mine has just given my an old scanner to mess around with,,,and so this is the first offering. http://members.tripod.co.uk/tranwood/audley2.jpg bobf 8m
