Help – I have to video a wedding this weekend!

Question:

Well, I’ve just been elected to video (informally) my sister-in-law’s wedding this weekend.  It work out well, since my wife is in the wedding party, & this gives me something to do.  And I get to watch them dressing! (Just kidding:-) Seriously, I do need some tips.  Can anyone suggest what to do, or not do?   What did you get in your wedding video that you really liked, or wished you had on video but don’t?  I’d like this to turn out as professional as possible, but need advice!!!  Thanks.

Response:

Make sure you’re COMPLETELY set up at the church before the ceremony. Many officiants don’t like a lot of activity while the service is in progress.   Use a tripod and get the camera as high as possible in order to get the best view. Get some interviews with family and friends. At the reception don’t walk around too much with the camera on but relocate the camera while it is off to get different angles and views.   Party Central Disc Jockey Service.  1-800-444-0999 ***** 630-554-9263 ***** fax:  630-554-9946     http://www.prodj.com/partyc

My uncle videotaped ours and there are a couple things I wish he would have done differently:  got the best angle in the church.  I should have told him where to stand because when everyone stood when I walked in, it blocked his view.  The other thing was to get a rundown on the order of events at the reception.  We had a married couples dance that they only taped the end of.  They tended to get a lot of their friends and family (understandably) – so I wish they would have moved around a little more.  They also didn’t tape us leaving (in the limo my husband surprised me with). Good luck!
