No problem. > 2.  Can you bring water bottles with water in them?

Most likely. I walked through sipping a Burger King soda the other day. > 3.  Can you put your film in your pocket to avoid a possible requirement > that you have the film sent through x-ray.  I know that the FAA should > allow you to hand check film, but I heard that sometimes they won’t.  It > seems that film in your pocket should go undetected.

Probably. But if your pocket is bulging from 18 cans of film, you can bet they’re going to look at you funny. > 4.  Camera check – I heard that they might force you to open your camera > to insure that it is a camera.  If you did open it up then you would have > to rewind the film to avoid ruining the film.

I haven’t heard of this. I always travel with a camera in my carry-on and only once since 11-Oct, in London, did someone make me turn it on. In Copenhagen a couple weeks ago I got my first full-on search (boarding a flight to Washington) and even they didn’t give the camera more than a glance. At US airports they’ve poked at my tripod for a few seconds but never dwelled on the camera. > 5.  Does anyone know of a website that might describe the new security > requirements?  I have seen the FAA website and have printed the portion > have to do with film checking/carryons.  I am talking about a non FDAA > website.

I wouldn’t sweat it too much. miguel — Hit The Road! Photos and tales from around the world: http://travel.u.nu

Certainly. Bring whatever over the counter vitamins you want. Any prescription meds should be packed in bottles that clearly show what the meds are, who prescribed them, and what they’re for. > 2.  Can you bring water bottles with water in them?

Sure. I do it all the time. > 3.  Can you put your film in your pocket to avoid a possible requirement that > you have the film sent through x-ray.  I know that the FAA should allow you to > hand check film, but I heard that sometimes they won’t.  It seems that film in > your pocket should go undetected.

No, just let your film go through the carryon scanner. It will not come to any harm unless you scan it many times. The only exception to this is film that’s faster than 1600 speed (which few people use). If the film is too fast, just ask for it to be hand inspected. > 4.  Camera check – I heard that they might force you to open your camera to > insure that it is a camera.  If you did open it up then you would have to > rewind the film to avoid ruining the film.

Just make sure your camera has a charged battery in it. I have been asked to turn on my camera and had the security attendant look through the lens, but that is it. Not a big deal by any means. > 5.  Does anyone know of a website that might describe the new security > requirements?  I have seen the FAA website and have printed the portion have to > do with film checking/carryons.  I am talking about a non FDAA website. > Thanks for any advise on the above

The web site for your airline is a good starting place to look for this info.
